Background

The SEWAK Computer Centre, established in 2009, emerged as a pivotal initiative in the Sundargarh district, a region marked by its tribal heritage and a discernible gap in technological education and access. Prior to its inception, the opportunity for acquiring computer training in Sundargarh was limited to the district’s urban centre, presenting a significant financial barrier for the majority of local youths and students. This disparity not only hindered their educational advancement but also their competitiveness in an increasingly digital job market. Recognizing the indispensable role of computer literacy in modern society, where virtually every sector demands tech-savvy personnel, SEWAK management embarked on a mission to democratize access to computer education. By offering courses at minimal and affordable fees, the SEWAK Computer Centre aimed to bridge the digital divide and foster a more inclusive technological landscape in the region.

Since opening its doors, the SEWAK Computer Centre has been instrumental in transforming the lives of rural youths through comprehensive computer education and professional courses. With a curriculum encompassing PGDCA, ADCA, ERP Tally, and OSCIT courses, the centre has catered to a wide array of interests and career aspirations, ensuring students are not only literate in basic computing but are also equipped with specialized skills to thrive in the professional realm.

As of February 2024, the centre proudly boasts 2,816 graduates, a testament to its success in promoting computer literacy and employability among the underserved populations of Sundargarh. The objectives of the SEWAK Computer Centre are clear: to significantly enhance computer literacy among rural youths, to provide affordable yet quality education in information technology, and to equip students with the skills necessary to secure employment in the digital era, thereby contributing to the socioeconomic development of the region.
